Asthma Sufferers Warned As Dust Haze, Thunderstorms Predicted Nationwide
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning to sufferers of respiratory ailments amidst its forecasting dust haze and thunderstorms across the country from Monday to Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
NiMet advised the public, especially people with asthma and other respiratory conditions, to take precautions against suspended dust particles, and warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms, urging residents to secure loose objects and avoid tall trees.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday, NiMet predicted slight dust haze over most of the northern region on Monday, with moderate haze expected in parts of Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi and Kaduna states.
The agency forecast isolated thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Taraba State in the afternoon or evening, while the North-Central region was expected to be sunny with patches of clouds in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms over parts of Kogi, Kwara, Benue and the Federal Capital Territory.
For the South, cloudy conditions were forecast with light rain over parts of Delta and Bayelsa in the morning, while thunderstorms with moderate rainfall were likely over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti, as well as the South-East and South-South, later in the day.
On Tuesday, the northern region was expected to be sunny and hazy throughout the day, while the southern region was forecast to experience thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over most areas later in the day.
