Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid suspended as fans ‘throw poo’ at Thibaut Courtois
Chaos erupted at the Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid derby when objects, allegedly including a bag of poo, were lobbed at Madrid’s goalie Thibaut Courtois.
The epic La Liga showdown came to an abrupt halt in the 68th minute as objects rained down sending Courtois into complaint mode with fans suggesting one tossed item was a bag of faeces along with a lighter.
Atletico’s Jose Gimenez and Koke dove into the stands, desperately trying to calm their supporters down before head honcho ref Mateo Busquets Ferrer dragged both teams off the pitch in what was a wild twist to the evening.
Before the drama unfolded, Eder Militao’s belter had put Madrid ahead in this nail-biter, only for play to pause and then kick back into action about 15 minutes later.
Known for its fiery player bust-ups, this derby also comes with its fair share of fan fury even footie sensation Kylian Mbappe was rumouredly given a wide berth over safety worries.
Plus, there’s been hefty chit-chat online urging Atleti fans to give Vinicius Jr a hard time almost a year on from some rather unsavoury types stringing up a dummy of the Brazilian star from a bridge prompting La Liga to shoot out a stern warning against hate speech.
The football body declared: “La Liga wishes to announce that it will proceed to formally report and request the immediate arrest of the instigators behind a hate campaign seeking to promote racist and derogatory acts.”
