BABY DEDICATION SHELVED AS GUNMEN KILL NEW DAD NIGHT BEFORE IN FAILED KIDNAPPING
A failed kidnapping attempt in Ekpoma, Edo State, has resulted in the death of a local businessman, Justice Oshioke, popularly known as Jusewayne, killed just hours before his child’s dedication ceremony.
Jusewayne was the owner of Principle Takeout in Idumebo.
The deceased is survived by his wife from a one-year-old marriage and a month-old child.
The baby’s dedication in the Dad’s church was due on Sunday morning, less than 24 hours before his killing, a development that has further deepened the grief within the community.
The incident reportedly occurred late Saturday night when unknown assailants allegedly attempted to abduct the victim.
He was said to have been attacked around the Idumebo area of Ekpoma while returning home
The kidnapping attempt was said to have failed, but led to his killing.
An eyewitness, who spoke anonymously, said the assailants attempted to abduct him, but he resisted.
“The attackers tried to drag him into the bush, but he resisted and he was shot,” the source said. “He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.”
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, describing it as a tragic killing.
“The Edo State Police Command is deeply saddened by the tragic murder of Justice Abu Oshioke. He was fatally shot by unidentified armed men on 2nd May 2026 at about 9:55 p.m. at Idumebo, Ekpoma,” she said.
She added that he was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Earlier in January, protests erupted among citizens in Ekpoma following a series of kidnapping incidents and killings.
The demonstrations led to police making random arrests within the community.
