Bleeding Borgu Emirate Deserves Care And Security From Govt, Not Snobbery And Humiliation, Says ADC’s Owokoniran
The National Vice Chairman (South West) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, extends his heartfelt condolences to the people of Borgu Emirate, Niger State, over the tragic loss of lives, displacement of families, destruction of homes, and the immense suffering recently befalling the community following attacks by terrorists.
Owokoniran said the cries from Borgu represented the frustration of millions of Nigerians who felt abandoned by a government that had failed in its primary constitutional duty of protecting lives and property.
He submitted: “No government succeeds when its citizens live in fear. Leadership must be measured not by promises but by its response when lives are threatened and communities cry for help.”
He noted that leaders normally upheld the rule of thumb across the world and personally visited disaster stricken communities to sympathise with victims, assess the damage, and reassure citizens of government’s commitment.
He cited the recent visit by the President of Ghana to flood-affected communities as an example of compassionate leadership.
Owokoniran lamented that while Nigerians continued to battle worsening insecurity, rising food prices, inflation, unemployment, declining purchasing power, and policies that deepened hardship, many affected communities still awaited meaningful government intervention.
He said: “The tragedy in Borgu Emirate should awaken the conscience of our nation. Every Nigerian life matters, and no community should ever feel abandoned in its hour of need.
“The Federal Government should immediately strengthen security, provide adequate humanitarian relief, rebuild affected communities, and demonstrate through action that every Nigerian life is valued.”
Owokoniran added that the situation further underscored the urgent need for a new direction under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Running Mate, Rotimi Amaechi.
He said the Atiku-Amaechi ticket offered Nigerians a credible alternative to restore security, revive the economy, protect lives, create opportunities for youths, and rebuild public confidence in government.
“Nigeria deserves leadership that listens, protects, and delivers. The time has come to rescue our nation and restore hope to every Nigerian,” he recommended.
