A Chief Superintendent of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Abdulwahab Magaji, has shot himself dead in Kano.
Sources said Magaji, who served at the Customs headquarters in Abuja, reportedly shot himself with a pump-action rifle at his residence in Kano last week.
His motive remains unclear and the Customs service is yet to make any statement.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Kano State, Haruna Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the incident.
He said a full-scale investigation had been initiated.
The incident happened last week’s Monday.
According to a source, the family of the deceased had raised the alarm that Magaji had shot himself with a rifle, prompting police officers to visit the scene of the incident.
The police arrived at the scene and took the victim to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The source said, “A family of the deceased had raised the alarm that CSC Abdulahi Abdulwahab Magaji, a Customs officer serving in Abuja, shot himself in his house at Farm Centre with a pump-action rifle.
“Police officers dashed to the scene of the incident and took the victim to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was certified dead by the doctor on duty.”
The corpse of the deceased has been handed over to the family for burial, according to Islamic rites.
