An explosion overnight rocked the Trans-Niger Pipeline in the Bodo area of Rivers State, followed by a raging fire at the facility.
No official reason has been given for the explosion.
Police nor NNPC authorities had yet to speak on the incident by this morning.
However, it was said that the explosion, which took place on Monday night, impacted the major export pipeline responsible for transporting crude oil to the Bonny Terminal.
The affected section is located in Gokana Local Government Area.
However, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of human interference, especially in light of recent threats from militant groups.
Some factions have warned of attacks on oil infrastructure if the Federal Government withholds Rivers State’s allocation amid the ongoing political crisis.
