Legislators in the Rivers State House of Assembly today Friday vowed to proceed with their plan to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
At an emergency Press Conference held this morning in Port Harcourt, the state capital, the lawmakers stated their renewed resolve on the impeachment of the Governor and Deputy Governor,
Four of the lawmakers, who had this week appealed to their colleagues to shelve the impeachment process, separately addressed another Press Conference.
At the briefing, they said that the impeachment process must continue.
The mass of the 28 lawmakers, who said several very important persons had called on them to halt the impeachment process, however, said that the Governor and the Deputy Governor continued to remain adamant on issues that sparked the grievances.
Lawmakers who addressed the Press Conference included:
* Hon. Linda Stewart: Representing Okrika
* Tekena Wellington: Asari-Toru 1
* Looloo Opuende: Akuku-Toru 2.
Major Jack – Majority leader (Akuku-Toru 1)
* John Dominic Iderima- Abua/Odua
They accused the Governor of infringing on the 1999 Constitution, saying the parliament was left with no other choice but to apply their legislative power by impeaching him from office.
The lawmakers also claimed the Governor and his Deputy had resorted to intimidating the parliament.
They, however, thanked President Bola Tinubu for wading into the crisis.
They also called on the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, to reconvene the House.
Shortly after the live Press Conference, the lawmakers made their way to the chambers for the commencement of a parliamentary session.
Rivers Assembly lawmakers hold briefing, accuse Governor Sim Fubara and Deputy Governor Odu of been autocrats, boastful and willing to kill democracy.
They accused the Governor of paying people to withdraw the impeachment process.
They urge Speaker Martin Amaewhule to call for a sitting for the impeachment process to continue.
