The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, officially declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.
INEC’s Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, while announcing the result in Akure, the state capital,
said Aiyedatiwa polled a total of 366,781 while Ajayi got 117,845 while LP had 1,162.
Declaring that Aiyedatiwa pollee the highest number of votes in the election, INEC named him the winner of the election.
During Saturday’s poll, Aiyedatiwa had battled Peoples Democratic Party’s Agboola Ajayi; Olorunfemi Festus of the Labour Party and Abbas Mimiko of Zenith Labour Party, among others.
Durotimi said, ” Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, is hereby returned elected.”
Aiyedatiwa succeeded late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on December 27, 2023.
He hails from Ilaje Local Government Area in the Ondo Southern Senatorial District of the state.
