A Kano State High Court has granted an ex-parte order restraining Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), from parading himself as a member of the party for now.
Additionally, the court ordered that henceforth, Ganduje should desist from presiding over all affairs of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC.
In the face of Ganduje, his wife and his son facing trial for some over $413,000 and N1.38 billion bribery allegations from the Kano State Government, the former Governor’s suspension was pronounced by his home constituency at the APC Ganduje Ward, in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area.
The application was granted by Justice Usman Malam Na’abba on Tuesday following an ex-parte motion filed by Barrister Ibrahim Sa’ad on behalf of two executive members of the APC Ganduje Ward, in the Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area.
The lawyer filed the motion on behalf of the Assistant Secretary, Laminu Sani, and Legal Adviser, Haladu Gwanjo (plaintiffs), who were part of the nine ward executive who suspended Abdullahi Ganduje two days ago.
The court directed the four parties (respondents) joined in the matter, include the APC, APC NWC, APC Kano State Working Committee (KSWC), and Abdullahi Ganduje, to henceforth, maintain status quo ante belum as from 15th April, 2024, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit on 30th April, 2024.
Justice Na’abba also stopped the APC Kano State Working Committee from interfering with the legally and validly considered decision of executives of Ganduje Ward.
It held that the action, endorsed by two-thirds majority of the executives was in line with provisions of the party’s constitution.
