BREAKING: Terrorists Release Corpse, Wife Of Army Spokesman Major General Rabe Abubakar
The wife of the deceased Nigerian Army Director of Publicity, Major General Rabe Abubakar (Rtd) has been released by the terrorists who abducted her and her late husband.
They also released his corpse, which has been buried in Katsina State, according to Islamic rites.
Rabe died two weeks into their ordeal in the custody of the bandits, reportedly due to complications from diabetes and hypertension.
The abductors on Saturday handed over the body of the late General to the family for burial.
According to family sources, funeral arrangements have been concluded in Katsina State in line with Islamic rites.
Rabe Abubakar was abducted along with his wife by bandits in the northwest.
A government statement said he died from complications related to diabetes and hypertension.
Rabe Abubakar and his wife were abducted around two weeks ago while on their way to a wedding in Katsina State.
The former defence spokesman died from complications relating to diabetes and hypertension, according to a government statement issued by the Ministry for Internal Security and Home Affairs.
The statement said that “despite the relentless and concerted efforts …to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy.”
The AFP news agency cited a security source with information that Abubakar and his wife had been traveling to a wedding and were ambushed en route.
The abductors reportedly were demanding the release of three detained fighters and also the return of livestock allegedly seized during security operations in order to release the kidnapped couple.
