Meanwhile, holders of Canada’s passport (ranked the seventh most powerful in the world in the 2026 Henley Passport Index) have the privilege of visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 183 destinations worldwide.

The annual ranking, compiled from International Air Transport Association (IATA) data, is widely regarded as a leading measure of global passport strength and international mobility.

Beyond assessing the travel privileges of Canadian citizens, the index also highlights Canada’s entry policies for foreign nationals.

While visa-free travellers do not need a pre-departure visa, those requiring an eTA can complete a straightforward online application, which is generally processed faster and with fewer requirements than a standard visitor visa.
