Citing His Friend Ronaldo’s World Up Failure, Davido Opens Up On His Greatest Fear
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido (real name David Adeleke) has bared his mind about his greatest fear.
Citing the Portuguese world player Cristiano Ronaldo, Davido confessed that he had personal worries about not knowing the right time to step away from music.
Davido is the only African Artiste followed by Ronaldo on Instagram.
Davido referred to Ronaldo as a close friend and expressed his support for him.
“Even in soccer, you win World Cup, Champions League and other trophies and people still don’t think it is enough. For instance, look at my good friend Ronaldo – after everything he’s done for football, they still laughed at him for exiting the World Cup,” Davido said.
David made the disclosure while speaking in a recent interview with ABTalks podcast hosted by Anas Bukhash, saying that pressures came with fame and emotional toll experienced by celebrities whose popularity faded over time.
According to Davido, watching once-successful public figures lose their relevance was frightening, adding that he would establish a therapy centre to support celebrities dealing with life after fame if given the opportunity.
He said, “If there is one thing I could build, I would build a therapy centre for people who were popular and very successful people. Because it is crazy to be on top of the world and the next moment you are not.
“Even in soccer, you win World Cup, Champions League and other trophies and people still don’t think it is enough. For instance, look at my good friend Ronaldo – after everything he’s done for football, they still laughed at him for exiting the World Cup.
“That is my greatest fear. I have worked so hard for me to come and spoil it with something. I pray to God every day to show me the right time to pack it up.”
The Singer explained that maintaining success could be just as challenging as attaining it, noting that public expectations remained high regardless of an individual’s accomplishments.
He went further to recount the incident that led to Ronaldo Portugal’s elimination from the World Cup, stating that the trolls’ abusive comments online affected him deeply, considering their friendship.
He said, “Look at Cristiano Ronaldo when he left the World Cup. He is my friend, by the way. He is my very good friend.
“When he left the World Cup, I remember being on the internet, and the trolls were abusing him so much, even after everything that he has done.”
