It became Finidi George’s first loss as interim coach.

Similarly at Monday’s international friendly, the Eagles of Mali drowned Mauritania by 2-0.

Capitalising on a defensive error by the Nigerian defence, El Bilal Toure drew first blood in the 18th minute.

Later in the second half, Doumbia added insult to the injury when he produced a moment of magic to seal the winning second goal in the 84th minute.

The runners-up in the just finished African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast were unable to force a draw in the first half after E. Toure gave Mali the lead.

This was interim coach George Finidi’s first defeat in charge of the team since replacing Jose Peseiro, whose contract expired after AFCON.

On Friday, Finidi’s first match as manager ended in a friendly victory over the Ghanaian Black Stars 2-1 in favour of Nigeria.
