Davido’s Dad Deji: APC Relied On N60bn, Army And Presidency, But I Prayed To God That Voters Take The Money But Vote Ademola

Afrobeats Singer Davido ’s Billionaire father, Dr. Deji Adeleke, says that when they heard that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had dispatched N60 billion towards the Osun State governorship election and were splashing as much as N50,000 per voter, he retreated into his quiet room to kneel down and pray.

He stated this in a video shared on Monday, at Adeleke’s victory celebration held on Sunday night.

Deji said he asked God not to allow Osun voters turn their backs on his younger brother, Governor Ademola Adeleke, because of money.

“I prayed that Osun voters would collect APC money but vote for my brother,” he recalled.

And God answered the prayers, he said.

Ademola, the Accord candidate, defeated Bola Oyebamiji of the APC with 511,067 votes against 444,815.

The result marked the second consecutive governorship defeat for the APC in Osun after Ademola defeated then-incumbent Gboyega Oyetola in the 2022 election.

The elder brother of the Osun State Governor said he was always certain his brother would win the Governorship election despite the opposition’s receiving the support and assistance of The Presidency.

Ademola Adeleke was declared the winner of the Osun gubernatorial elections on Sunday.

Adeleke said, “I don’t discuss with anybody. I do it in the corner of my room. I do this every day. So, I was not worried. I had no doubt in my mind that Ademola will win. Ademola will overcome,” he said.

Explaining his confidence, he added, “I fortify myself with the power of the Almighty God every day. And the day that I fast, I’ll do it three times a day. And nobody knew. I don’t discuss with anybody.”

On the opposition, Deji said, “Let them come with all the battalions, withdraw the Army, bring all the money from the Central Bank. Nobody is above God Almighty.

“He comes with his wickedness. He comes with the power that he thinks he has because he’s connected to the Presidency. But Ademola comes against them in the power of the Almighty God.”

Deji also said he had prayed for the Governor’s protection and victory, adding, “He dances and praises your name. So, Lord Almighty, God, the owner of the universe, show up for him.”

He said he kept declaring in his prayers every day: “Ademola will defeat them!”

Deji said rather than attempt to match the alleged spending by the opposition, he turned to God and prayed for his brother’s victory.

“On the day of the election, when I heard about the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room and I knelt down and I prayed to God Almighty and I said, ‘God Almighty, let people collect their money but still vote for Ademola Adeleke,’” he said.

“They spent 60 billion as we heard. Some places they bought votes for as high as N50,000, for one single vote.”

Deji said the Adeleke camp’s victory was not because it had more money or a stronger political structure than the APC, but because of its faith in God.

“The only reason why we defeated Oyetola is not because we’re bigger or spent more money than him,” he said.

Deji said his faith had also shaped his approach to politics and public life, adding that he regularly turned to the Bible during his prayers: “When I kneel down to pray every day, I have some Bible passages and verses that I read and pray with. And this is part of my testimony. Isaiah 41:10.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

The businessman said his confidence in God had also made him less concerned about political influence or seeking access to powerful people.

“I am not afraid or bothered about anything because my belief in God Almighty is very strong and that is why you don’t see me running after power, people in high places or competing with people to go to visit anyone,” he said. “I’d rather ask God Almighty to help me in my little corner.”
