Death Claims Kabiyesi Oloja Of Oja In Village Headmaster Dejumo Lewis

The death has been reported of veteran Nollywood television and movie Star, Chief Dejumo Lewis, who played the role of the King, Oloja of Oja, in the long-running series, The Village Headmaster, produced by the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA.

Lewis died at the age of 80.

Confirming the sad news, fellow Actor, Saidi Balogun, mourned the death on an Instagram account today Saturday.

Underneath the photo of the late veteran, Saidi wrote, “Good night DEJUMO LEWIS, may your soul rest in perfect peace. RIP.”

Lewis was also known for playing characters in acclaimed modern Nollywood movies, including: “A Place in the Stars” (2014), “Crossroads” (2020) and “Power of 1” (2018).

However, his by far most famous role was and as the highly revered King, the Oloja of Oja, in The Village Headmaster, Nigeria’s longest-running television soap opera shown on NTA from 1968 to 1988.

The show depicted the Nigerian Federation in a microcosm.

It starred Justus Esiri (Headmaster), Femi Robinson (who replaced Editing as (Headmaster), Ms Elsie Olusola (Sisi Clara), Oba Funso Adeolu (Chief Eleyinmi), Jab Adu (Bassey Okon) and many others.

Funsho Adeolu wrote, “Oh wow! An icon has gone, may his soul rest in peace.”

Also, Mustapha Sholagbade said, “May heaven be pleased with him .”

Veteran Nigerian singer, Daddy Showkey also wrote, “Oh my God.”

Akin Olaiya said, “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Kunle Afod said, “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Also, Eniola Badmus wrote, “Awwwwwwww.”

Raphael James, an arts curator, wrote,“Good night ‘Kabiyesi’, the ‘Kabiyesi’ we all knew growing up in the 1970’s-80’s, Sir Dejumo Lewis, who played the lead role of ‘Kabiyesi’ in ‘The Village Headmaster’ television series which was Nigeria’s longest-running television soap opera on NTA 1968- 1988. He lives on.”
