Four Dead In Lekki, Lagos Building Collapse

Emergency responders combing the rubble of the collapsed structure on Oriwu Street in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State have recovered two more corpses from the scene.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development on Thursday, said a total of four dead bodies have been recovered from the rubble.

“Two more dead bodies were brought out of the rubble this morning,” Hundeyin said.

On Wednesday evening, the PPRO said two corpses were recovered from the rubble as 14 victims were rescued and rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment.

He also said emergency responders were still combing the scene as policemen of the command provided security during the exercise.

Hundeyin said, “Two bodies have been recovered. Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command were mobilised to the scene of the collapse of a building under construction on Oriwu Street, Lekki Phase 1, which occurred around 4 pm today.

“A total of 14 persons have so far been rescued and taken to Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, operatives of the command remain on the ground to provide security for the ongoing rescue operation.”
