The Delta State Police Command has arrested Ifeanyi Ogbonna, male, aged 44, also popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” in connection with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro, who later committed suicide.

Favour recorded a suicide video, saying among other things: “By the time you see this video I will be dead, I was in need of help and money. I told Odogwu Asaba because he’s popular and has more experience so he can help me. He promised to help me and lecture me. He invited me over, raped me despite telling him I’m a virgin.”

Activist Joe Israel, who reported the case to the police, alleged that the accused lured the young lady to his home in Asaba under the pretext that he would teach her how to monetize her TikTok and Facebook accounts.

He said that before the visit, the deceased, via WhatsApp, had told Asaba that she was a virgin and was not interested in any form of relationship with him.

Joe said that when the deceased got to the place, she resisted his sexual advances, and he allegedly raped her ruthlessly until she began to bleed.

The victim reportedly called her twin sister and her mother, who then sent her money to return home.

The deceased was said to have reported the matter to an activist who asked her to forget about it as the accused is an “influential person.”

According to Joe, out of frustration, Favour bought a poisonous substance, drank it, and passed away.

Police said the arrest followed a petition received by the Command alleging that on 1st June 2026, the deceased travelled to Asaba at the invitation of the suspect, who had offered to train her in content creation, a programme he reportedly promoted through his social media platform.

“Upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical violence. She later returned home visibly distressed and disclosed the incident to her parents. In the aftermath of the alleged assault, the deceased made a video recording in which she recounted her experience and the emotional distress she suffered following the incident. She subsequently committed suicide by ingesting a toxic substance and later died despite efforts to save her life,” Edafe Bright, spokesperson of the command said

Edafe stated that upon receipt of the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command Effurun to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations.

The statement said: “Acting on the directive, operatives of the Command swiftly commenced investigation, leading to the arrest of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, also known as ‘Odogwu of Asaba.’ During preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements to the Police, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.”
