Documentary Script On JMF’s 10th Anniversary

  1. Marriage can be defined as an ongoing, chosen partnership between two people who commit to building a shared life while still growing as individuals. It can also be described as a dynamic relationship, not a fixed state: something that has to be actively maintained rather than something that just exists once the vows are said.
  2. However, in order to manage conflicts that might arise in marriages and also have the ability to navigate them constructively, strengthen and build healthier families, it becomes imperative that institutions be put in place to achieve these.  One of such institutions is Joyfully Married Foundation (JMF).  Established in 2016 by Lady Oluranti Odutola, a selfless and passionate woman and a retired Permanent Secretary in Lagos State, the foundation was created with the conviction that stable and fulfilling marriages are essential to the development of responsible individuals, peaceful families, and a better society.

  1. With an array of experienced Board Members from all walks of life, the JMF has focused on helping couple gain a better understanding of marriage, improve communication, manage conflicts, and rediscover the joy and purpose of their union. These Board Members include:

  1. The broad aim of Joyfully Married Foundation (JMF) is to promote healthy, stable, purposeful and joyful marriages by equipping couples with practical knowledge, skills and support for successful family life. This the foundation does through its quarterly marriage clinic initiatives which have particularly emphasised honest and effective communication as a critical foundation for marital stability.
  2. The Foundation also seek to: Encourage conflict resolution and reconciliation, promote mutual understanding, respect, trust and friendship between spouses, promote positive family values, mentor younger generations by providing them with realistic and practical knowledge about marriage and relationships before they enter into marriage as well as build a culture of enduring marriages, where couples are encouraged not merely to remain married but to develop relationships characterized by friendship, companionship, fulfilment and shared purpose among others.
  3. In order to expand its operation from being a mere marriage clinic into a broader family strengthening and marriage support movement, the Joyfully Married Foundation (JMF) future goals could include: Establishing a structured marriage resource counselling centre, expanding marriage clinics across Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, launching a comprehensive premarital education programme, developing an annual Joyfully Married  Conference and creating a family support fund or intervention programme to assist vulnerable couples and families facing significant social or economic pressures.
  4. As the Joyfully Married Foundation (JMF) marks its 10th Anniversary which coincides with the 70th birthday of the founder, Lady Oluranti Odutola, its vision is to become a leading marriage and family- strengthening organisation in Nigeria and Africa recognised for helping couples build marriages that are not only lasting but healthy, fulfilling and beneficial to society.
