The military regimes in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have announced they are quitting as members of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.
Leaders of the three nations jointly on Sunday issued a statement saying they had made a “sovereign decision” to leave ECOWAS “without delay”.
Recently, all three were suspended from ECOWAS, with Niger and Mali and retaliated with the formation of an “Alliance of Sahel States.”
Their joint statement issued on Sunday appears here.
