Tears flowed freely as family, friends and colleagues came together for the burial of the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara Adedamola, in Lagos on Thursday.
Ayilara was laid to rest at Abari Cemetery in Lagos, about 2.25p.m according to Muslim rites.
Chief Missioner of Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT), Chief Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike, led the Janazah prayer.
Onike also led other Muslim clerics from the Police and other areas in Lagos, to conduct burial lectures/prayers for the family and the deceased.
Ayilara died early in the morning of that day Thursday, 29 August, 2024 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
The late CP reportedly underwent surgery for prostate cancer on Wednesday, 28th August, 2024.
Things took a tragic turn when he died early the following day on Thursday, 29th August, 2024.
Sources said Ayilara showed no sign of ill-health on Monday, 26 August, 2024, during the pull out ceremony for Assistant Inspector General of Police, Yetunde Longe.
A close associate recalled: “In actual fact, he walked into the hospital on Wednesday for the surgery.”
A practising Muslim, Ayilara was buried the following day on Thursday, 29 August, 2024 in accordance with Islamic rites.
Ayilara had acted as the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State before he was posted to Akwa Ibom in substantive capacity.
He resumed in Akwa Ibom in February this year to take over from AIG Olatoye Durosinmi, promoted to AIG Zone 2, Lagos.
Adedamola assumed duty as the 32nd Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State.
With a Law degree (LL.B) (Hons) from the University of Ibadan, he held a BL from the Nigeria Law School, Lagos, and Master of Law (LLM) from the University of Lagos.
He was appointed into the Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on the 18th of May, 1992 and served in various capacities including ; Assistant Commissioner of Police – Police Mobile Force Office– FHQ Abuja, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Oyo State Command, Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal and Investigations Department, Panti, Lagos, amongst others.
