Ex-Gov El-Rufai Threatens To Sue Defence Minister Christopher Musa

Kaduna State former Governor Nasir El-Rufai has threatened to sue the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), who, in a recent television interview, accused him of engineering the killings in Southern Kaduna.

In a formal letter of claim issued through his legal team, El-Rufai demanded an immediate retraction of the alleged defamatory remarks, an unreserved apology and the presentation of relevant evidence.

The letter, dated September 7, 2026, was issued by the Chambers of Ubong Akpan, acting on behalf of El-Rufai.

El-Rufai’s lawyers complained about several statements allegedly made during the programme broadcast on September 3, 2026, including remarks concerning bandits, killings, demolitions, ransom payments and El-Rufai’s alleged conduct while serving as Governor of Kaduna State.

The solicitors described the statements as defamatory and said the broadcast remained accessible through terrestrial television, satellite television and online streaming platforms.

The lawyers gave the Defence Minister and his representatives 24 hours to acknowledge receipt and seven days to provide a substantive written response to the demands.

They stressed that El-Rufai reserved the right to pursue any legal remedies available to him if the matter is not resolved.
