The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party (LP) has rejected a National Convention that sacked the Julius Abure-led administration and constituted a Caretaker Committee led by former Finance Minister by Mrs. Nnenadi Usman as Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokeocha as Secretary.

Those in attendance were: Peter Obi (LP 2023 Presidential Candidate), Abia State’s Governor Alex Otti, all LP senators, all LP House of Reps members, and all LP House of Assembly members.

The Caretaker Committee was mandated to organise a National convention at a later date.

However, in a statement by Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh on Wednesday evening, the Labour Party disowned the outcome of the Umuahia Stakeholders Meeting summoned.

The LP executive said that the meeting was illegal and unconstitutional.

The NEC/Expanded stakeholder meeting held at Abia State Government House in the capital Umuahia.

It, also, agreed to continue to support His Excellency, Peter Obi as the National Leader of the Party.

It asked all party members who instituted any case in the court to withdraw same in the interest of the party, according to a motion seconded by Distinguished Senator Kelvin Chukwu representing Enugu East Senatorial Zone.

Pat Utomi hailed the initiative.

Utomi tweeted on Wednesday: “How do you spell relief: UMUAHIA. In that Abia city today Labour Party showed it could get its house in order and put aside those putting themselves ahead of the common good and focus squarely on the Nigeria project. Thumbs up to Alex Otti for his leadership and more grease on order for Dr Nenadi Usman’s elbows.”
