Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has endorsed the Barrister Julius Abure-led newly elected National Working Committee (NWC), when he paid a solidarity visit to them at its National Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Obi joined the Federal Capital Territory, FCT chapter of the Labour Party and supporters, who converged at the National Secretariat in solidarity with Abure.
The party had been at daggers drawn with the National Labour Congress (NLC) and the party’ Board of Trustees after the 2024 National Convention held in Anambra State that gave Abure and his team a second term.
President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, denounced the election.
Differing from Peter Obi, Kenneth Okonkwo Spokesperson for the LP Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 Presidential Election said he was cutting relations with Abure’s team.
He tweeted:
“I am suspending my relationship in all ramifications with the purported Abure led National Working Committee of Labour Party. For me, it’s either a new Nigeria or nothing. I prefer to lose doing the right thing to winning doing the wrong thing. Nothing can wash out the criminality, corruption, and incompetence with which the purported National Convention was purportedly organised by Abure.
“I did not leave the comfort of a ruling party APC because I believe that they are incompetent and dishonest only to come and join another incompetent and corrupt association, which is the current Abure led National Working Committee of Labour Party. Kenneth Okonkwo.”
