Gov Adeleke Accuses President Tinubu’s ‘Nephew’ Minister Oyetola Of Killings, Violence In Osun

Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prevent the coming Osun State election to turn into a bloodbath through the actions of Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister for Marine and Blue Economy.

Some 14 political parties and their candidates are contesting the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party and opposition challenger Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) of the All Progressives Congres (APC).

Making his appeal in a tweet on Monday after his campaign at Olorunda local government area, the Governor said the state’s opposition All Progressives Congres (APC) not be led to continue a descent into violence allegedly engineered by its immediate past Governor Oyetola.

In the message titled: “𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗯𝘂 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 Not Allow Oyetola Set Osun on Fire,” Adeleke wrote:

“At the campaign rally today in Olorunda local government area, I appealed directly to Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Osun is bleeding, and our people will not be intimidated. His intervention is needed; the loss of innocent lives in Osun must stop. All we are asking for is simply a free and fair election.

“Mr. President must act as the father of this nation and help safeguard the democracy he fought for. I reminded the President that the 2027 general elections are also around the corner, and he should not allow his nephew, Mr. Oyetola, the Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, to ruin his name and the democracy he fought along with many others

“It is our collective prayer that as a country, may we never witness such incident as the political violence of 1983 particularly in the southwest. Democracy works when the people freely chose their leaders, a demand not too much for citizens of Osun State to make.”

OYETOLA’S PROFILE

Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola, current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, served as Governor of Osun State from 2018 to 2022 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

On 23rd March 2019, a tribunal declared him to have not been legally returned and ordered INEC to issue certificates of return to Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP, which was contested at the Court of Appeal.

He was appointed Minister of Transportation by President Bola Tinubu on 16th August 2023, but redeployed four days later to the newly-created Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
