Eight officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been killed by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers during a brutal attack on the BUA Cement Company in Okpella, on Friday.
Four other NSCDC officers sustained injuries and were currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The armed assailants invaded the BUA Cement premises around 10pm and gunned down the Civil Defence officers at the entrance of the company.
The NSCDC personnel were escorting five Chinese expatriates back to base following a routine patrol.
NAN leant that the slain officers were members of a security team at the cement factory.
During the ambush, the gunmen —armed with sophisticated weapons—opened fire on the convoy, killing eight NSCDC operatives and one civilian.
However, a swift response by other personnel of the corps led to the rescue of four of the expatriates unhurt.
But one Chinese expatriate reportedly remained in the gunmen’s captivity.
The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Gbenga Agun, has reportedly paid a visit to the company.
Agun also visited the injured officers in hospital.
The NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Edo State, Mr. Efosa Ogbebor, said a formal statement would be issued by the Corps’ national headquarters
