Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, a former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has been acquitted of a N338.8 million money laundering charge by a Federal High Court.

Also freed was his personal assistant Oyebode Atoyebi.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Ikuforiji and Atoyebi on a 54-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering. They were accused of allegedly accepting cash payments of N338.8 million from the House of Assembly without going through a financial institution.

The defendants, first arraigned before Justice Okechukwu Okeke of the Federal High Court in 2012, were acquitted on Monday, June 24.
