The Lagos State House of Assembly has directed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to order the Head of Service to withdraw appointment letters employing several agency heads without legislative confirmation.
The directive was issued during a plenary session where lawmakers expressed their frustration over the Executive’s repeated disregard for due process.
Additionally, the House ordered the Lagos State Accountant General to halt payment of salaries and allowances to the affected appointees with immediate effect.
Speaker, Dr. Mudashiru Obasa, described the issue as a recurring matter disrespectful to the legislative arm of government.
He said: “It is unnecessary for the Head of Service to continue to ignore the directive of the House of Assembly.
“The House allocates funds to these agencies, yet their heads treat the Assembly with disrespect.”
The lawmakers argued that bypassing the confirmation process violated the principle of separation of powers.
They cited Sections 126 and 198 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandate that the Legislature must confirm certain public officers appointed by the executive.
