Veteran Juju musician, Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, widely referred to as King Sunny Ade, has appeared in a video to debunk claims of being abducted, a clarification that confirms TheNewsGiant Monday report.

In a video shared on Facebook and other social media platforms, Sunny Ade explained that, contrary to information circulated by one of his daughters, he had been resting after performing at an event in Lekki, Lagos, and was therefore unreachable.

His Group Managing Director, Mr. Charles Ade, had deflated the abduction cum kidnapping story in an interview with TheNewsGiant on Monday.

Sunny Ade’s Kidnap Story Is A Lie From The Pit Of Hell, Says KSA Group GMD Charles Ogundipe

Sunny Ade’s daughter, Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye, had on Monday sounded the alarm via social media, alleging that her father was being held against his will by his stepson and manager, Dayo.

Laughing in the video, Sunny Ade said: “My children, everyone, wants to see me. It was during the time I took to rest that I wasn’t accessible. But glory to God, I’m here.

“I was not kidnapped. I’m thankful to my fans for the check-up, support, concern, and love. I’m on my way to a show now.”

He then broke into Yoruba.

“I was not kidnapped. Neither did I kidnap myself.”

“Nobody kidnapped me. I pray, as I don’t want anybody to kidnap me. I believe that the whole world is in love with me. This is me, King Sunny Ade. I have to thank God and you, my fans, for the concern. I have been doing my shows. I was at a show last Saturday at Lekki, Lagos. I am on my way to have a show, and I am coming back again to play in Lagos, as well. So, I have nothing to say other than to thank God and to thank you,” KSA said.

The singer also appreciated Nigerians and fans worldwide for their concern, noting that the confusion might have stemmed from some of his children not seeing him recently.

“I know my children are in love with me, and they want to see me. I didn’t go anywhere. This is me. I thank the children, too, for their concern as well.

“By God’s grace, enjoyment continues. I am still in music. Music is my life; it is my business, and I will continue to do it. I thank the whole world for loving me as usual.”

Damilola had claimed the 78-year-old musician was being made to “work under duress” while his whereabouts remained unknown to other family members.

Similarly disclaiming the supposed abduction in an Instagram post on Monday, Sunny Ade stated emphatically that he was alive and doing well.

He wrote: “Contrary to the falsehood and fabricated news dated 28th April, 2025 peddled by Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye and her associates who declared that I was missing, I hereby state as follows: That I, Dr. Sunday Adeniyi-Adegeye MFR, also known as King Sunny Ade, am alive and well,” the statement read.

“It is very important to address the falsehood and fabricated news… and to assure the general public and loved ones that I am alive and safe. I am grateful for the love and support of my fans.

“Lastly, I utilize this medium to admonish the blogger(s) responsible for this mischievous act alongside those that take undue privileges to trample on my hard-earned reputation and image to desist forthwith; otherwise, be prepared to face the wrath of the law.”
