Muslim Males With Plaited Hair, Earrings Barred From Jumat Prayers
The Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Sheikh Muftaudeen Ayanbadejo, has announced new dress codes and conducts for worshippers attending Jumat prayers.
Amongst the newly-stated rules, the Muslim cleric announced the barring of men with plaited hair and those wearing earrings from entering the mosque for the weekly congregational prayer.
The directive was announced during the Jumat service last Friday.
Muftaudeen Ayanbadejo described the step as part of efforts to promote discipline, decency and reverence within the mosque.
Under the new regulations, men who plait their hair or wear earrings would not be allowed into the mosque for Jumat prayers when the directive takes effect on Friday, October 16, 2026.
The announcement gives affected worshippers one week to familiarise themselves with the new rules and make the necessary adjustments ahead of their implementation.
In a related directive, the Sheikh warned worshippers against using mobile phones during prayers, stressing the need to maintain concentration and avoid distractions during the sacred act of worship.
He declared that any worshipper caught operating a mobile phone while prayers were ongoing would
have the device seized immediately.
“The measures are aimed at enforcing discipline and maintaining an atmosphere of solemnity and respect during congregational worship,” the notice warned.
