Netherland Prime Minister And Gay Partner Expecting First Child Via Surrogate mother
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and his partner, Argentine field hockey player Nicolás Keenan, announced that they are expecting their first child in the spring of 2027.
Jetten, 39, disclosed this on Monday in a post on his personal Instagram account.
The surrogate mother name has been identified as Lisa, a Dutch friend and acquaintance of the couple who already has children of her own, while the egg donor is also a Dutch friend of the couple who has children.
Jetten is the first openly gay Dutch Prime Minister and the first postwar Dutch Prime Minister to expect a child while in office.
“Someone very special is on the way. See you in 2027, little one,” he wrote, with emojis of a baby and a feeding bottle.
“There are no words big enough to thank our egg donor, our surrogate mum and both their families. None of this would be possible without you.”
Jetten is engaged to Argentine field hockey international Nicolas Keenan.
The couple had planned to marry this summer but postponed the wedding after Jetten became Prime Minister.
Jetten became the youngest Prime Minister in Dutch history following his D66 party’s surprise election victory last year.
According to a statement by his party, the surrogate mother and egg donor are Dutch friends of the couple who already have children of their own and had no commercial motives.
It is illegal in the Netherlands to pay for surrogacy.
D66 said the “high-tech” pregnancy fully complied with Dutch rules and was made possible through IVF care available in the country.
The party added that Jetten would take a few days off when the baby arrived to be with his family, but did not plan a longer parental leave.
