Nigeria Hits Highest Oil Production In 6 Years
Nigeria’s crude oil output has risen to its highest in more than 6 years and now exceeds its Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota for the 4th straight month.
Data released on Sunday in Abuja by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), showed that the country’s average crude oil production rose to 1.56 million barrels per day (mbpd) in June 2026, some 4% higher than its OPEC production quota of 1.5mbpd.
In addition condensate output averaged 0.18mbpd, raising total crude/condensate to 1,735,398 bpd.
This is Nigeria’s highest crude oil output since April 2020, denoting a 74-month high.
NUPRC’s report also indicates June 2026 is the 4th consecutive month of oil production increase, which highlights recovery of the country’s upstream sector after years of severe losses due to oil theft, operational disruptions and vandalization of pipelines.
The report shows combined monthly production as follows:
- Feb2026: 1.483mbpd
- Mar2026: 1.564mbpd
- Apr2026: 1.663mbpd
- May2026: 1.701mbpd
- Jun2026: 1.735mbpd
According to NUPRC, the improved performance came through stable production across major oil-producing assets plus absence of any significant pipeline outages during the review period.
Additionally, scheduled turnaround maintenance were effectively managed/ completed without major disruptions to production operations.
Analysts expressed confidence that the boost in production would strengthen Nigeria’s export earnings, improve forex inflows and provide additional revenue.
