Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have ended their seven-day warning strike.
SSANU and NASU took the action over the Federal Government paying seized salaries to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) without doing same for non-academic staff, over the prolonged 2022 strike.
In a circular to their unions’ branch chairmen of public universities nationwide, SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, called for members to resume work from today Monday, March 25, 2024.
The two unions began a seven-day warning strike last week’s Monday, March 18, 2024, in protest against withheld salaries.
Publicly-owned university workers in the registry, bursary, works and maintenance, security and students’ affairs departments immediately downed tools.
All university unions had undertaken an eight-month strike in 2022 to press home some of their demands including a better welfare package.
In the course of the strike, the President Muhammadu Buhari administration invoked a “No Work, No Pay Policy” against them.
However, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last October approved the release of four of the eight months withheld salaries.
