The Lagos Police Command has successfully facilitated the return of N1 million extorted from three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by four police officers in the Surulere area, News360 Nigeria gathered.
The incident was brought to light by an X user, Oluyemi Fasipe, who revealed that the officers allegedly demanded the sum after the corps members failed to produce a physical copy of their driver’s license.
In addition to the N1 million extorted, one of the corps members was reportedly forced to transfer Bitcoin worth $842 to the officers.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and stated that the officers involved had been identified and were undergoing interrogation.
While the names of the officers were not disclosed, Hundeyin assured that the ongoing investigation would determine their culpability.
The officers could face dismissal depending on the outcome of the internal trial, a process aimed at addressing police misconduct and ensuring justice for the affected corps members.
