Pat Utomi Challenges Tinubu To Public Debate
Nigerian expert on political economy and opposition leader, Professor Pat Utomi, has challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to defend the administration’s performance in a live presidential debate ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on national affairs and accountability, Utomi said Nigerians deserved to hear directly from the President about the economy, insecurity and governance.
“Defend your record in a live presidential debate,” he said. Utomi argued that direct engagement would allow voters to evaluate the administration’s record and compare competing proposals for Nigeria’s future.
He maintained that presidential spokespersons should not replace opportunities for citizens to question the President directly. According to him, leaders seeking another term should be prepared to subject their performance and policies to public scrutiny.
