The Aare Atunluse of Awori Kingdom and the Chairman, Mapcotec Nigeria Limited, Aare (Surveyor) Dr. Segun Osifeso has commended President Bola Tinubu for his directives on the suspension of the 15 per cent Import Duty on Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) and Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel).
Aare Osifeso, who made these remarks during a chat with newsmen at Ota, Ogun State on Friday, noted that the Federal Government’s gesture would significantly avoid increase burdens on the people.
He stressed that the President Bola Tinubu led administration was aware of the economic pressures of the time and, therefore, took this decision in order to relieve Nigerians from the burden the implementation would have added to the people’s daily activities
The renowned Surveyor said that if the decision on the Import Duty had not been rescinded by the Federal Government, it would have created market instability, price increases, hoarding and panic buying.
” The suspension of the 15 per cent Import Duty on petroleum products by Mr. President reflects the government’s responsiveness to public concerns and its broader agenda of easing the cost of living for Nigerians and Nigerians are highly appreciative of this gesture”, said Aare Osifeso
The community leader equally lauded the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for its assurance to the Nigerian public of sufficient petroleum supply across the country and that there was no need for panic buying or hoarding of the products.
He, however, counseled the NMDPRA to ensure strict monitoring of the supply and distribution network to prevent disruptions, as well as ensure the promised steady supply of petroleum products nationwide
