The Labour Party (LP) in Bauchi State secured the highest number of votes in the Bogoro councillorship election held in Lusa B Ward of Bogoro Local Government Area, despite not fielding a candidate, in last Saturday’s polls that saw the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) clinch all the 20 chairmanship seats.

With no LP candidate featuring in the election, the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, declared the runner up from the PDP, Lucy Ahmadu Yusuf, as the winner representing Lusa B Ward.

Announcing the results at the collation centre in Bogoro, the returning officer, Daniel Gambo, stated that the Labour Party, without a candidate, garnered 2,200 votes, outscoring PDP’s Lucy Ahmadu Yusuf, closely followed with 2,168 votes.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mbam Masoyi, came in third in the election with 275 votes.

The declaration was made by the Chairman of BASIEC, Alhaji Ahmed Makama, in his office on Saturday after exercise.

Makama said: “After a successful conduct of the exercise and diligent collation and compilation of the results, all of the 20 chairmanship candidates of the PDP won the ballots.”

Meanwhile, main opposition party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) had earlier raised alarm that the ruling PDP and BASIEC would allegedly rig the election in favour of the PDP.

Elected council chairmen have been sworn-in on Sunday, August 18.
