Policeman Guns Down Alleged Lover And Female Colleague Then Kills Himself In Kogi

A policeman of the rank of a Corporal has shot dead a female colleague before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide episode at ASCO Camp in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

Corporal Amos Yusuf fired his service rifle at female fellow Corporal Grace Onimisi, who died instantly on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Reports said both were lovers.

However, no context has been given to the shooting of Grace Abraham by Yusuf.

He was reportedly on night guard duty and left his post around 9pm to kill her in her apartment.

He thereafter killed himself with the same gun.

The Kogi State Police Command reported the incident in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat.

According to the command, the incident was reported at about 11:04 p.m., prompting the Divisional Police Officer in Ajaokuta to lead a team to the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Yusuf, who was on night duty, allegedly shot Onimisi before turning the gun on himself.

Sources reportedly linked the incident to a failed romantic relationship between the two officers, alleging that Yusuf was unhappy with Onimisi’s decision to end the relationship.

However, the police have yet to establish the motive behind the shooting.

Both officers were rushed to separate medical facilities, where they were confirmed dead.

Their bodies were subsequently deposited at the ASCO Hospital mortuary.

Police recovered an AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges from the scene.

The command said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased officers.

He assured the public of a thorough investigation and urged residents to avoid speculation until the circumstances surrounding the incident were established.
