Nigeria’s Presidency is downplaying the fall President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had at the Eagle Square, venue of Democracy Day, in Abuja.
Boarding the parade vehicle on the occasion, the President slipped and crashed to the floor of the roofless military Land Rover.
However, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Mr. Dada Olusegun, said it was a “mild misstep.”
Via his X handle, Olusegun tweeted: “Mr President missed his step while climbing into the truck at the June 12 Democracy Day celebration and tripped. It was a mild misstep. He immediately went on with the ceremonial rounds. No issues.”
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, said through his X handle: “President Tinubu is not a Superman. He is human like all of us.
“President Biden has had several slips in the last three years.
“Even the younger Barack Obama slipped while President.
“Political leaders are human. Slipping should not detract from the import of Democracy Day celebration.”
The Nigerian President stumbled and fell on Wednesday as he boarded his ceremonial parade car at Eagle Square in Abuja.
Tinubu, was at the stadium for the Democracy Day celebrations.
He missed a step, tumbled and fell as he was about to enter the vehicle designated for the ceremonial inspection of the parade.
His security officers and aides, however, rushed quickly to his aid, and restored him to his feet.
A video clip showed Tinubu unshaken after the incident as he waved to the crowd and proceeded with the day’s events.
