Workers in the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association of Nigeria have given the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) 14 days to reverse its ban on alcohol packaged in sachet and mini bottles.
The association issued the threat during a protest at the NAFDAC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, and sachet vowed to increase protests across the Agency’s offices nationwide if nothing is done about it.
National President of the association, Jimoh Oyibo, led the protest and said the ban hurt the union, as most of its members worked in the distilling and blending companies.
On February 1, NAFDAC began enforcing the ban on alcoholic beverages in sachets, and glass bottles of 200ml and below.
