Protests continue on Monday, say organisers of the nationwide demonstrations against hunger and economic hardship, running under the tag, “#EndBadGovernancelnNigeria.”

Going by the original plan, the nationwide were scheduled to run from August 1 to 10.

Although President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made a Sunday nationwide broadcast on the crisis that has seen over 30 killed, organisers say he refused to address areas of discontent and offered no solutions.

Sowore tweeted on Sunday:

Please be aware that the #EndBadGovernancelnNigeria action will resume fully tomorrow across Nigeria and in several parts of Lagos—Lekki Toll Gate, Alausa Secretariat, former Lagos Toll Gate, Ketu, LASU Gate, Abule Egba, FESTAC Town, and several other centres. However, all groups are advised to march towards Ojota before processions to the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa.

Organisers in Jos, capital of Plateau State, invited citizens to join the protest on Monday or shut down businesses in the Tin City to prevent damage to their assets.

The protest has been relatively peaceful in the North Central state of Plateau, and has so far recorded any incident of violence.

They served the warning today August 4.

According to them, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Sunday broadcast failed to address the pressing challenges facing the nation.

They vowed to mobilise more people to come out to express their grievances and dissatisfaction with the broadcast, adding that the protest was the only way to voice their concern to the government.

The protesters, comprising adults and young people, were seen carrying placards, leaves, and flags of different countries moving from one street to another to issue the warning, saying, “No business tomorrow. Everyone should come out tomorrow for the protest.”

The protesters’ major demand is the removal of the fuel subsidy and tackling insecurity in the country.

In his broadcast, Tinubu ruled out the return of the fuel subsidy, saying even though the decision to remove the fuel Subsidy was painful, it was necessary because it has constituted a noose around the economic “jugular of our Nation and impeded our economic development and progress”.
