Employers in the Organised Private Sector (OPS) have said that organisations would not be able to pay the N70,000 National Minimum Wage announced by the Federal Government.
They said they would need government support to meet the new wage obligations.
Reacting to the news of President Bola Tinubu’s approval of N70,000 as the new national minimum wage, Director General of NECA Adewale-Smart Oyerinde, said: “While we commend the President for putting to rest the immediate issue of the National Minimum Wage, we also note, most importantly his commitment to support the sub-nationals and the Organised Private Sector to pay the new wage.”
Oyerinde spoke against the background of the agreement between Labour and government on Thursday that fixed the minimum wage for Nigerian workers at N70,000 per month.
