An Ilorin Magistrate’s Court in Kwara State has remanded in prison 13 suspects brought before it for the killing of the Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara, Oba Olusegun Aremu.
The 13 are facing a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, kidnapping and giving false information.
The 13 are:
** Godwin Jacob,
** Olowofela Oyebanji,
** Adefalolu Ayodele,
** Tewasie Francis,
** Babatunde Samuel,
** Godwin Joseph,
** Issa Number
** Miracle Solomon,
** Abraham Kehinde,
** Muhammed Bello,
** Muhammed Muhammed,
** Ahmadu Umaru and
** Muhammed Dankai.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), one Simon Adeyemi reported the case of the murder of Olukoro to the Eruku Police Division.
The report stated: “The suspects pointed a gun at Oba Aremu, ordering him to follow them when he challenged them, after noticing their movement around his grandson.”
It also stated that the Oba’s grandson escaped through the backdoor, while the suspects subsequently shot dead the royal father.
Following this, they kidnapped his wife and one Mercy.
The kidnapped women have since regained their freedom.
After Police Prosecutor, Abdullah Sanni, urged the court to remand the suspects, Magistrate Monisola Kamson ordered them remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre, Ilorin.
Subsequently, the court adjourned the matter to March 5 for further hearing.
