Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, today Monday announced the suspending of three house legislators, accusing them of plotting to impeach him and other principal officers.
They remained suspended indefinitely, he said.
Agbebaku’s action, however, sparked tension in the House, as the affected lawmakers kicked against their suspension.
The three suspended lawmakers screamed continuously: “Mr Speaker, you have no right to suspend any member(s) of the House unilaterally.
“You must call for votes!
“Allow members to vote on this matter!”
The Speaker, thereafter, adjourned sitting abruptly and banged the gavel.
Members suspended at plenary were:
- Okogbe Ojeneh Donald, a PDP member representing Akoko-Edo II;
- Addeh Emankhu Isibor, an APC member representing Esan North-East I; and
- Iyamu Bright, a PDP member representing Orhionmwon II.
The Speaker said the three legislators plotted to change the House’s leadership.
According to him, external forces were influencing the three suspended members to cause chaos and upturn the leadership of the House through diabolical means, including native doctors, sacrifices and charms.
