US Midterm Elections Hold Today Tues Nov 3, As Trump Loses Supreme Court Battle On California Mail Voters
Today, Tuesday, 3rd November, US voters will troop out to polling units nationwide for the midterm elections.
Elections take place every two years, and when they happen in the middle of the President’s four-year term of office, they are called the midterms.
The Supreme Court had on Monday rejected a push for California to set aside thousands of mail ballots from people President Donald Trump’s administration claims are noncitizens, a decision that comes on the eve of the pivotal midterm elections.
The high court refused to intervene in a case involving 20,000 people the Republican administration flagged as likely noncitizens on the largely Democratic state’s voter rolls.
The outcome of the midterms will decide which political party – Trump’s Republicans or opposition Democrats – controls Congress and how easy it is for the president to carry out his plans.
The electorate will choose members of Congress, which is made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
All 435 members of the House will be elected –they serve fixed terms of two years.
Meanwhile, 35 of 100 seats in the Senate will also be up for grabs.
Senators serve six-year terms.
