Yayi Ni Joo! Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Clinches APC Governorship Ticket For Ogun, Rival Polls Zero Votes
Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola has clinched the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket with 304,055 votes to emerge winner among the two contestants.
His rival, Mr. Abayomi Hunye, scored zero votes.
Accordingly, APC electoral officials declared Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi), who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, as the winner of the governorship primary election held across the state on Thursday.
Chairman of the Ogun State Governorship Electoral Committee, Wale Ohu, announced that Adeola secured 304,055 votes out of the 305,287 accredited voters who participated in the exercise on Thursday.
Ohu said Adeola’s only challenger, Abayomi Samako Hunye, polled no votes in the primary conducted across the state’s 20 local government areas.
He subsequently declared Adeola the duly elected APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election, adding that the results would be forwarded to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) for ratification.
Addressing party members and supporters after the announcement, Adeola expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his mentorship and support throughout his 24-year political career.
According to him, Tinubu played a significant role in his political rise from the Lagos State House of Assembly to the House of Representatives and later to the Senate, where he is serving a third term.
The Senator also thanked former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba and incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun for their support in facilitating his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate.
He commended APC leaders and stakeholders in the state for ensuring a peaceful and transparent process, describing the outcome as a reflection of the party’s unity and political maturity.
Adeola pledged not to take the confidence reposed in him for granted and promised to build on the achievements of the current administration.
“Our goal is to build on the remarkable achievements of Governor Dapo Abiodun and move Ogun State to a higher level of inclusive growth, infrastructure development, economic prosperity and people-oriented governance,” he said.
Governor Abiodun, in his remarks, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the primaries, noting that consensus was reached in most of the contests.
“We must thank God for the peaceful way we have conducted our affairs so far. Other states are struggling to achieve what we accomplished seamlessly. I want to thank every party member who allowed the overall interest of the party to prevail over personal interests. Without their sacrifices, we would not be celebrating this success today,” the Governor said.
