John Olubunmi Agbaje, first son of a Nigerian political chieftain and Pharmacist, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, is slated for burial on Friday in Canada.
Aged 41, Olubunmi died, reportedly from cardiac arrest, on Monday, May 27, 2024 in Canada.
Apart from his only son and wife, the deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. Jimi and Mrs. Abiola Agbaje, and his paternal grandmother.
Jimi Agbaje is a former Governorship Candidate of the Democratic People’s Alliance (DPA) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, as well as a chieftain of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere.
Jimi Agbaje, disclosed the burial arrangements to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday in a phone call.
According to him, the family would also hold a special memorial service in Lagos on a subsequent date, after the burial in Canada.
Agbaje, who revealed he was still dumbstruck on the sudden demise of his son in faraway Canada, said the family had submitted to God on the monumental loss of the young man.
He said: “His mother and I, indeed the entire extended family and friends, cannot describe our pain. The shock is still there but in all, we give in to the will of God.
“We cannot question God and we know He alone will help us to heal with time.”
Fondly known as“Funtime,” John Olubunmi Agbaje attended elementary school at Corona School, Ikoyi, with his secondary education at Atlantic Hall, Lagos.
He proceeded to Ampleforth College, North Yorkshire, England for his A-Levels, and initially started postgraduate studies at the University of Plymouth.
He later transferred to and completed his Bachelor’s programme at the University of West of England (Bristol) with postgraduate studies at the University of Birmingham.
Prior to his death, Bunmi served as a Marketing Manager with multiple consumer packaged goods companies in Nigeria and Canada.
