Despite the musician being banned from flying in the country, Nigerian police have received an official petition from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over Fuji singer Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (popularly known as KWAM 1) holding up a plane to prevent its flight at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on August 5.

NCAA had petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to launch a thorough investigation into the incident.

The aviation agency had previously said the action could be classified as terrorism in some other countries.

The singer was caught on tape standing in front of a plane to prevent its takeoff.

KWAM 1 prevented the ValueJet Abuja-Lagos flight from taxiing to the tarmac after the airline officials ejected him from the plane over a flask they suspected contained alcohol.

He has been sipping from the flask.

In a statement released Tuesday August 12, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the matter, to unravel the circumstances which led to the ugly incident and ensure justice is served accordingly.

Adejobi added that the Force assures the public of its commitment to upholding safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector, while assuring stakeholders in the sector of improved collaboration towards aviation security and strict compliance with aviation laws.

The musician has since apologised for the incident.
