Senator Maidoki’s Defection Confirms APC Has Failed Nigerians – Says ADC South-West National Vice Chairman Owokoniran

African Democratic Congress ADC’s South-West National Vice Chairman, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, has described the defection of Senator Garba Musa Maidoki from the ruling All Progressives Congress APC to the opposition party as a significant political development that reflected the growing dissatisfaction with the direction of governance in Nigeria.

Owokoniran pointed out that the concerns raised by Senator Maidoki after joining the ADC deserve serious national reflection.

The ADC chieftain noted that the Senator spoke from his experience as a serving lawmaker, raising questions about budget implementation, the nation’s increasing debt profile, insecurity, governance and internal democracy.

“If a Senator who once defended and worked for the ruling party now says the government has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians, those concerns should not be dismissed with political insults. They should be answered with facts, transparency, and measurable results,”.Owokoniran said.

He stated that Nigerians continued to grapple with rising hardship, inflation, insecurity, unemployment, declining educational standards, and widespread economic uncertainty despite repeated assurances from the government.

Owokoniran further noted that while government agencies reported improvements in revenue generation, many ordinary Nigerians were still asking why these improvements had not translated into better living conditions, improved infrastructure, quality education, affordable healthcare or enhanced security.

He also expressed concerns over any political process that weakend internal democracy, stressing that every political party should guarantee a level playing field where party members freely chose their candidates rather than having candidates imposed upon them.

He said: “The voices of Nigerians can no longer be ignored. The country deserves leadership that is accountable, transparent, people oriented, and committed to solving the real problems confronting our nation. Democracy must remain a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

Owokoniran reaffirmed that the African Democratic Congress remained committed to offering Nigerians a credible, competent, and people-centered alternative built on good governance, national unity, economic prosperity, and security.

He called on Nigerians, particularly the youth and women, to remain engaged in the democratic process and support leaders who placed the interest of the nation above personal or political considerations.

Owokoniran said: “Nigeria can rise again through visionary leadership, responsible governance, and the collective resolve of patriotic citizens.

“The time for national renewal is now.”
