The directive was conveyed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West, Adegoke Fayoade, during a meeting with Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Government House in Osogbo.

He urged the police leadership to guarantee fairness, uphold the rule of law and provide adequate security to enable residents participate freely in the forthcoming governorship election.
Osun State has experienced a wave of politically-motivated killings and violence ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, with some five residents, including a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu, and the son of the Accord party Women’s Leader, killed by suspected political thugs.
Adeleke’s Accord Party, through Abuja-based lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), demanding an end to the “unprovoked killings” and the deployment of tactical forces.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Fayoade said the IGP instructed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 11, and the Osun State Commissioner of Police to ensure that acts of violence, murder and brigandage were not tolerated.
He stressed that all offenders must be thoroughly investigated, arrested and prosecuted, assuring residents that adequate security measures were being put in place to guarantee a peaceful and credible governorship election.
