Foremost Citadel Of Journalism, NIJ, Rejigs Alumni Association, Elects Executives

Formost citadel of journalism, Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ikeja, Lagos, has reorganized its Alumni Association and elected new executives for the next three years.
The outcome of a new alumni association and executives is the outcome of a thorough reorganisation by an interim caretaker committee, led by Mr. Mathew Idowu.
In a keenly contested election, organised by a seven man electoral committee, headed by Dr. Adeboye Ola, the Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (NIJAA) members has elected Mr. Olumuyiwa Akintunde as National President.
Other elected national executives are: Adesola Isabella Omwen, Vice President; Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, General Secretary; and Chika Nnamani, Assistant Secretary.
Also elected are: Mark Akhuetie, National Publicity Secretary; Pelumi Oluwayomi, Organising Secretary; and Dr. Adegbemi Adewale, Legal Adviser.
Speaking after his election, Akintunde thanked members for the confidence reposed on him and the new executive, describing the outcome as a victory for all NIJ graduates.
He also stated his commitment to advance the association and journalism profession.
“It is a victory for every graduate of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism who believes that our association, our institution and the journalism profession can attain greater heights.
Addressing NIJAA chapters and members in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Australia and other locations, Akintunde described the chapters as “the engine of the association” and urged members to take collective ownership of the new administration.
Akintunde also identified three priorities agenda: leadership that listens, improved welfare and opportunities for members, and a stronger NIJ and NIJAA image.
On welfare and professional development, the NIJAA president promised initiatives aimed at creating employment and career opportunities, as well as expanding access to training, mentorship and welfare support.
